ElectriCity Exhibition

Explore CLP Pulse

Three exhibitions are on permanent display at the magnificent red-tiled CLP Pulse, telling the Kadoorie Family’s commitment to Hong Kong, CLP’s integral and enabling role in modernising the city, and how intangible cultural heritage helps promote shared values in our community.

ElectriCity traces the evolution of the power industry and its impact on Hong Kong society from the 20th century through the new millennium. Our Home · Our History, presented by The Hong Kong Heritage Project looks at the contribution the Kadoorie interests made to the post-war rehabilitation and development of Hong Kong. Meet the young craftspeople at Traces of Human Touch curated by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office. Each of them has selected an intangible heritage item to demonstrate how traditional craftmanship is passed down from generation to generation.

CLP Clock Tower

Architecture

Sitting at the foot of Kadoorie Hill, the CLP clock tower became an instant local landmark after construction was completed in 1940. It was part of the CLP Head Office complex for more than seven decades.

The CLP clock tower, designed and constructed at the height of Art Deco movement, is the most prominent and recognisable feature of the complex. It is also one of the few remaining examples of pre-war modernist architecture in Hong Kong.

The 2004 report of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Antiquities and Monuments Office described the CLP clock tower as “not only a symbolic building of the CLP company itself, but … a landmark of the district.” The report added that it also reflected “the irreplaceable status of the Kadoorie Family in Hong Kong”.
